HPR - URGENT PLEAS/NEEDS

On this page HPR will post urgent
needs, lost animals and other immediate concerns shared/crossposted by rescue
groups and individuals needing immediate help. Feel free to write us if you have
an animal needing immediate assistance. You will note that some animals have
been here a long time - they still need your help - they deserve more than
living in a kennel.
The Pet Rescue Site lists missing pets
across the US.
Check your state to see if you
have seen any of them.
And here are some individual pleas for help from around the country. Most recent are posted first...but please read on down the page! These animals all need immediate assistance! And if you know any of these animals have been placed or their circumstances have changed, please email us ASAP. Thank you.
Meet sweet little Leggo - he needs your help. Click his photo to read his story, and please share it with others! Thanks, in advance!
Miami, FL - Beautiful Jader is looking for a home.
Meet Jader, a 6 year old black lab mix. You would never know her age by the way she plays! Her last owners were AWFUL and neglectful so I decided to foster her and find her a home, but given the bad economy it has been difficult to get any interest. She is spayed and up to date with all her shots. I took her to the vet on May 9th and her blood work and fecal test came back perfect.

She is fully house broken and has never had an accident in the house. She knows
basic commands, and she is very gentle when you give her treats. She loves to
give kisses and snuggle, I was told that she will try to dig her way under a
fence, so you can’t leave her in a yard unsupervised. She does not do well with
crates/cages; she will bloody her paws and mouth trying to get out of them
(probably due to something that happened in her past).
She is a very loyal and protective dog. She does protect her home once she knows
it’s hers and she’s very protective of her family. There will be some people who
come over your house that she might not like (she will let you know who they
are) She has NEVER bitten anyone.
I was told that she gets along with most dogs- she was frequently around 3
weimerimers and a St. Bernard. She does not do well with cats, small dogs or
small children.
She desperately needs a loving forever home with someone who will give her all
the love she deserves. Someone who is willing to continue her training would be
ideal.
There will be a home screening and vet reference check along with a small
adoption fee before she is adopted out. She has been through a lot and I want to
make sure that she goes to the right home.
Please contact Nicole at
nicramos23@gmail.com,
please type Jader in the subject line. Thank you!!!!

Aurora, OH - Sweet Jubee is waiting for love and a new home.

Jubee has had a rough time lately. She had to be removed from PETSMART because
she became too depressed, then even after she was back at the shelter she stayed
depressed and was moved to a temporary foster home, but what she really
needs is a loving home!
She is a long haired 6 year young spayed beauty!
As of right now Jubee does not bother when people come to look at the cats, its
like she has given up hope. Jubee has
been waiting almost 1 year!
Anyone interested in adopting her would have to understand she is very shy right
now and would need time to adjust, also she would do better in a quiet home.
Jubee needs a loving family to make her feel safe and secure, and she will give
lots of love in return. If you have room in
your heart and your home for Jubee, please contact
goldie544@yahoo.com or
call
330-296-4022.

Los Angeles, CA - Maine Coon urgently needs a home - owner died and she needs a foster or forever home ASAP.

She is
a very gentle cat who likes to fetch balls of paper and foil. She is friendly
and affectionate, but does not like to be held. She will come up to you seeking
affection, pets, and scratches. She will bite gently, never breaking your skin.
She has had a hard time lately because she has been in a temporary home for a
month while the owner's home was being sold. She was shy and fearful at first
and hid, but eventually started bonding with her caretakers and came out to sit
between them on the sofa - also, sleeping with them in bed. She still seems to
be looking for her other cat companion who died recently. She does not take to
new people immediately and will take some time to bond with her new guardian, so
it will take some patience and understanding to help this cat in her new home.
She is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and healthy. When I asked if she was felv/aids
negative, I was told Kobie sees the vet yearly and no mention was ever made of
it. Vet records can be obtained if necessary. She is indoor only, not declawed.
She was originally listed as a Maine Coon when she was adopted from a shelter.
She has never been around dogs, but loved the other cat. Kobie will do things
for the son in the household that she will not do for the mother, i.e. get in
the carrier with out a problem.
Kobie was headed for a shelter on May
15...although we do not know her current status, if you are interested in
saving/adopting her, please write Paula Maxwell at
birdda@sbcglobal.net
Kobie comes with a $300 donation to help her.
Murphy, NC - Sweet Sadie needs a home ASAP - Please share her story.

Look at the cute always happy
face!
When Sadie came to project paws, she had
been hit in the head with what seems to be a crowbar, then dumped by the person
who actually called us in the backwoods of Murphy, NC. Sadie is only 1.5 years
old, a beautiful, happy, outgoing, sweet and energetic dog. Yet she has been
beaten, abandoned and unloved for many months in her life.
Her foster mom named her Sweet Sadie because of her wonderful temperament!
Sadie is a very sweet girl who really needs a rescue who can work with her on
basic obedience & socialization, or a home who has the time and patience for
her. Sadie has been in foster care with us for months and has been passed by
countless times... Her foster mom is actually allergic to dogs, and having Sadie
who LOVES to cuddle and be hugged, is not good for her foster mom's Breathing at
ALL. We rescued Sadie from the woods, vetted her, and made sure she was
healthy, friendly and loving, now we are pleading with the rescue world to help
us place her in a loving home, or another rescue that can place her easily.
For some reason, dogs such as Sadie just don't move here... Most people want
smaller dogs, or puppies...and sadly Sadie is neither.
PLEASE SAVE SADIE!!! Due to her foster moms allergies, it is very very urgent
that we find Sadie a place to go. All of our foster homes are full... and Sadie
is too good of a dog to go without a home! She is very sweet, and knows how to
sit and is kennel trained and housebroken! She is also fully vetted!

adopting Sadie, please contact:

Miami, FL - Sweet Rusty has lived at the shelter for 10 years - please give him a forever home...

This is Rusty - the Big Red head! In my wildest imagination, I can't understand why he has been here for 10 long years. There are no hidden flaws, no personality deficits. He is just a gorgeous shep/chow mix who has lived in a kennel, keeping it clean for 10 years. He is such a favorite of all the staff, but is always picked over for someone else.

Just look at that sweet face...
Rusty came to the shelter as a roly poly ball of fur at 5 weeks old. A precious pup that loves to play with stuffed animals and to play catch. He adored and was adored by all of his female canine companions, who one by one strolled out the door to their new homes, leaving the big Red Head behind. I have no explanations as to his long stay, but it is long enough. At 10 years old, he is a strong and healthy fellow, with a radiant personality, in fact a charmer. He loves to walk on a leash and play fetch but more than anything, he loves to curl up in your lap and be loved. Rusty is about 60 lbs( a little chubby from lack of exercise!) and has the most soulful eyes and endearing smile. He loves kids and female dogs, but no male dogs or cats please! If you want to meet, this beautiful red head, please call Kathy at 305-401-4693.
Also in Miami, FL - Duffy has been in a kennel for 7 years - he deserves a home - just look at that wonderful face and please help!

Hi, I am Duffy, a handsome shepherd mix. I have been here patiently waiting in my little kennel for seven long years. I have never lost hope, but I have to admit, my chances for my own forever home are looking a little dismal. I arrived at the shelter when I was a four month old pup and was adopted right away. But there was some trouble with my family and I ended up being returned to the shelter because they weren't treating me very well. That was when I was about 2 years old, and here I have sat ever since. I am now 9 years old and I am just wondering, how much longer do I have to wait? I have seen hundreds of friends come and go over these seven years, and I am just as handsome as they were (even more than some !) and have lots of personality. I am friendly and cheerful. Always up for my favorite games of tug of war and fetch. I know I am considered a mature adult now, but I have many great years ahead of me. I would be perfectly content to hang out with a family in their living room watching football, the news, maybe the dog whisperer or whatever they want really, their choice. I don't need a lot of exercise, but I do love leisurely walks, which I am very good at. I don't pull or chase after cats. I weigh about 50 lbs. Just the perfect size to cuddle up in one of those comfy dog beds I have heard about. I am healthy and affectionate and I really am begging for a chance at my own home and family. Just think about it please. And if you decide to give me my chance, I won't let you down. Call my best fan, Kathy @ 305-401-4693 or email her at klcremer@aol.com and she will set it up for us.
Jonesboro, GA - Sampson is running out of time - please save his life.

I am a very gentle giant. Very well mannered dog. I am getting kennel cough and need to get out of here ASAP. I was found hanging out in someone's back yard because their female attracted me. I am not dog aggressive at all. Please come in and see me. I am available for adoption on 02-16-09 and will have until 02-23-09. All animals adopted from Clayton Co Animal Control must be spayed or neutered within 30 days of adoption.

A low cost spay/neuter certificate will be issued to adopting families at the time of adoption. Rescues please have copy of Dept. of Aug. license and permission form if you are sending someone other than the license holder, also picture I.D. All animals posted are at risk to be euthanized at any time due to overcrowding under severe circumstances. All animals are considered urgent after their available date has passed. Please call ASAP
Miami, FL - Rescued boy, Oso, needs a home!

I may not be very cute but I am very sweet and gentle. I was rescued from living on the streets and all my medical conditions have been treated and cured. I have all my vaccines, I have been neutered (eeek!) and I am negative for FIV and FeLv (Leukemia). I am about 4 years old. If you are interested in adopting me or fostering me, please call Esther at 305.545.1912 or 305.778.1586. Please, please, give me a chance. Thank you, Oso.
Sweet Sissy needs URGENT surgery and her owner desperately needs our help to pay for the operation...

Georgia rescuer, Tiffany Jourdain, with Project Paws, Inc, share's Sissy's story as follows:
Sissy
is a 9 yr old Havanese Terrier who has been a loyal, playful companion for her
moms hundreds of foster puppies. She loves to play ball, throw her toys in the
air, and sit on the couch, cuddling. Sissy is the light of her mommy's life, and
the shadow that makes the day brighter in dark times. A lot of us have or have
had "heart dogs" who mean the world to us. Sissy is the "heart dog" for her
mommy, and seeing her needlessly suffer is ripping her moms heart out.
The surgery Sissy needs in
a surgery to remove a duct just below her jaw bone. Her saliva glands are
frequently filling, getting infecting, and making it extremely hard for her to
breath. This poor girl doesn't understand why this is happening, and why she has
to fight to breath. The surgery will be performed by awesome vets at the
University of GA. There are a lot of nerves, and veins in the area, and she is
needing the surgery done by a specialist, Dr. Schmeidt.
Lucy called me tonight, pleading for sissys life, knowing that
she can't afford to pay for the surgery. She is on a very tight, fixed income,
and will be forced to euthanize sissy if she can't get help. I told her i would
send the info out to other animal lovers and see if we get a response back. No
promises for her or sissy, but it was worth a try.
Sissy isn't just a special dog to Lucy. Sissy has helped
many terrified dogs overcome their pasts of abuse, starvation, neglect, and
terror. Sissy's happy, always wagging tail has put a wag in every doggie butt
she meets! Sissy is a true advocate for homeless pets, and even acts a surrogate
mom for new puppies without mommies, Cleaning them and playing with them.
Sissy's surgery is going to
cost between $1200-$1500. We are PLEADING for
donations for Sissy! I have all the vet statements, and the contact info to
donate directly to the university of GA.
If you can
help (even the smallest donations are appreciated), a PayPal account has been
established
through jimmy-little@mindspring.com
- which is a clear account that has no activity so it will be easy to track how
much has been raised. To donate, go to
www.PayPal.com and click on the Send Money tab and
then put in the email address
jimmy-little@mindspring.com and then
enter the amount you want to donate and indicate that the donation is for
Sissy's surgery.
Or, to send a check, email Tiffany Jourdain at Leovrhs@gmail.com for the mailing address.
Our prayers are with Sissy and Lucy...God bless you little one. And thanks, Tiffany for sharing Sissy's plea.

Kingwood, TX - Two sweet family cats need a new home ASAP - please help Mamma Cat and Theodore

Charlie Cunningham writes: I have two wonderful cats who are 8 and 7 years
old.
The
gray one is "Momma Cat" and the other is her son, "Theodore".
I've
had them both since they were kittens. Both
are neutered/spayed.
My dilemma is
this...my five year old grandson now lives with me and he is allergic to cats.
I have to find a home for these two because they can no longer live with me.
I really don't want
to take them to the city or county shelter because I don't want to take a chance
on them being put down and I have not been able to find anyone who can take
them.
They are wonderful
cats with wonderful personalities and both are healthy. They were raised around
dogs and get along just fine with them.
I sincerely hope you can help me find new homes for them - they will make
someone wonderful pets. Ideally, it would be great if they could stay together,
but I realize that might not be possible. I would certainly be willing to
pay a sponsor fee to help with their boarding in a foster home until a permanent
home can be found.
If you would like to adopt or could foster these
sweet cats, please contact Charlie Cunningham 281-380-9563 or 281-361-7397.

St. George, Utah - Wilbur needs a loving foster home ASAP

It was New Years Eve and there were no vet offices open and Wilbur's injuries were so severe that they could not wait. Wilbur has a severe infection in his leg, and is about 20 lbs underweight. He had one leg bone completely exposed and then someone wrapped it so tightly that it caused the tissue to atrophy.
Wilbur is in good hands now and is getting treatment at the Best Friends Clinic but his recuperation may take a while as he may be losing his back leg. We need a comfy home for Wilbur to stay in until he is completely well and can go to his forever home.

Wilbur has been an absolute sweetheart with everyone, even when some of the treatment he received hurt. If you can provide a comfortable place for Wilbur to recuperate or if you are interested in adopting Wilbur please contact Carol at carol@dixiepaws.org 435-680-2643 or 435-634-5829
Miami, FL area - Please read Toby's story - he so deserves a loving home of his own!
This is Toby's story in his own words:) I'm a 2 year old, male, Yellow Lab mix. I was abused and neglected by my last owners. They left me on a chain for the entire year of my life. No matter what the weather, no matter how much I cried and tried to pull myself free, I just lay in the dirt at the end of a chain.
The only bright spot in my life was the wonderful people who lived next door. They really liked me and would come to the fence and pet me and throw food over to me and speak kind words. One day my owners moved and they took me with them to a new house with more of the same. I couldn't take it anymore and I don't know how I did it, but I escaped. The only place I knew to go was back to those really nice people that lived next to my old house.
So, I ran and ran and ran and lucky for me I have a good sense of direction, because I found my way back to those nice people. They took me in and tried to fix up my cuts and bruises and gave me food and water, but they couldn't keep me because they already had so many pets. They didn't know what to do with me so they found Pet Rescue and asked if I could come live there for awhile. I was pretty miserable looking when I first came here, as you can see from my before picture...

but now I am perfect, and all healed up (see below). I give everyone love here and get along with other dogs. And I have been so patient waiting for someone to come and pick me to bring home to join their family. I am so excited about the prospect of living inside a house, (I have never been inside a house before) on a soft, cushy bed with people to love me and play with me. I have been waiting almost a year now. I don't know why no one has come to get me. :( But I won't give up. Not after everything I have been through. I know my forever family is out there!
,
Kathy Cremer adds: I have a wish for the holiday that Toby, one of my favorite poochies at the shelter, will finally go to his forever home. If you can help me, by sending his picture and story around to all of your kind hearted and animal loving friends, maybe this wish can come true. :) Anyone interested can call me directly at 305-401-4693 or email KLCremer@aol.com . Happy, Happy holidays Kathy
Virginia - Buster is FIV+ but healthy, needs a home ASAP!! What a handsome tiger guy!

Buster is fully vetted, is between 2 and 4 years old. He is very sweet, friendly, gets along well with other cats. He would make a great companion for another kitty or two. Although he is FIV+, he is healthy, loves to eat and deserves to be happy.
Remember, FIV cannot be spread to humans and can only be passed to other cats through a bad bite. There is no reason this sweet natured boy shouldn't be considered for adoption. If you would like more information about Buster, please contact Dianne at help@catsunlimited.org
Hollywood, FL - Lulu's owner died and she needs a new home ASAP!
Lulu’s
faithful and loving human, animal activist, Jean Lee Fitzell, suffered a major
stroke a couple weeks ago, and passed away.
For the past 3 weeks, her beloved dog LULU has been boarded at Hollywood Animal Hospital . Her son, owner of multiple dogs, cat & kids, is not able to take the dog back home to California with him… and now, to prevent her from being taken to a local shelter, we are trying to find her a new forever home.
She is happy, healthy, up to date on all shots, and spayed. (If she is not micro-chipped, she will be.) Lulu is a very pretty 5-year old yellow Lab mix, and full grown at about 50 pounds. She is gentle, gets along with other dogs, (not sure about cats), loveable, good natured, well behaved and even though she is still relatively young, has lived as a loving companion for an ELDER PERSON for the past 4 years.
This is a highly adoptable dog and we are confidant that we can find her a new home… but we just need a little more time to do so.
Lulu is listed on Petfinder - www.gratefulpawsrescue.petfinder.org.
If you can foster this dog or are interested in adopting her… or know someone who might be --- please get in touch with me right away. Remember, we pay for everything: food, flea & tick meds, heartworm meds and any medical bills while in your care. We even provide the crate if needed.
Please contact: gratefulpaws@bellsouth.net or 954-462-8840 after 7pm. Jan Milbyer , GRATEFUL PAWS DOG & CAT RESCUE, INC.

Houston, TX area - couple with new baby need a home for this beautiful girl, Dinah

Dinah's owners are pleading for the life of his beautiful black kitty. This lovely girl is now two and a half, spayed, and up to date on shots. Here is Donald’s email: Dinah is a very calm, content cat who loves to lay in the sunshine and cuddle before bed. Her family found her three days before Halloween in 2006 crouched in a bush meowing in the pouring rain. She was barely big enough to fit in the palm of your hand and soaking wet. She slept in bed with us that first night and has been ever since. She gets along well with other cats. We cannot keep her due to the fact that my wife just gave birth to our son on October 3rd and he is already presenting some allergies, so we are eliminating any possible causes. We rescued this cat on a rainy day and probably saved her from death, and we just want to make sure we are continuing through with that decision and making sure she stays safe. We love this cat so much and it breaks our hearts to have to give her up, but even through this we are making sure she is going to get a good home. Please help this loving cat find a family that will love her as much as we do. Thanks again.
Contact Donald at: applingempire@hotmail.com if you can adopt her into your home or even foster her for a while, as they explore possibilities.
Houston, TX - Two rescued yellow lab mixes need homes ASAP...just look at those sweet faces...

Betsy had a man who offered to keep them for a few days, as she has six rescue dogs of her own, two kids and lives near the coast. Need I say more on that coastal issue? :)

Murphy, NC - Iggy was kept on a heavy chain - now he is protected and needs a home.
This is Iggy, a sweet Heeler mix! He was brought into a foster about about 2 months ago. After a sad life of no shelter, a huge heavy chain, little food, dirty water, and ears dripping blood from the fly bites.

He was brought to be at the pet store where I work, and
left. The "owner" just asked for her Chain back & walked away. No, goodbye hug,
no concern of where he was going to end up... just walked away with her heavy, 4
foot chain---the only life Iggy had ever known. Iggy went to a great
foster home, where he was neutered, given shots, & dewormed. Along with medical
care he was socialized, and given basicic obedience training, along with crate
training, and housebreaking. Iggy is almost 2 yrs old. He LOVES
kids, plays very gentle, and loves other animals! He is a sweet, great dog!!!
who just deserves love.
Iggy MUST go
to a home SOON!!! The foster home has LOTS & LOTS of foster dogs & puppies, and
Iggy is getting sad that he doesn't have a family that loves him. Everyday he
watches her puppies get adopted, and everyday he sits in his kennel & cries,
desperate for a home. OR a rescue that can help him find his way to a home!!!

Houston area - Mya Needs a Home TODAY. Read and share her story, and please give her a home if you can.

Mya, German Shepherd mix, sweet as the day is long, loving, gentle, great with kids, is looking for a home for the third time in as many months. Mya belonged to a family who never got her fixed and watched litter after litter of her pups die on the busy road near the house. Finally, they abandoned her down the street and told the Samaritan, "Take her."

A nice lady did adopt her, but she became hospitalized and could no longer care for her. She ended up in a shelter, is now being fostered, but the arrangement is short term. Mya deserves a chance. Can you help us find her "forever" home? She is now fixed, heartworm negative, up to date on shots. Houston area - Orphaned orange boys need a home ASAP.
Per Happy Cat Adoptions, Tanhouser (left) and Sunshine (right) were left behind when their human mom died. They were indoor/outdoor kitties, and when their beloved mom died, they refused to go back in the house. Happy Cat Adoptions has taken them in and we’re looking for someone in the Houston area to foster the two red boys or better yet—an adopter! The boys need to stay together. Tanhouser is an older gent at around nine, and Sunshine is about five—but they have been together all of Sunshine’s life. They are up-to-date on shots, combo tested negative, and micro-chipped. Houston, TX - Beautiful Siamese Mix Still Needs a Loving home - Meet Simone:

MEOW, my name is Simone. I am about 2 years old and up until recently I had a home, but I don’t think it was a very good one. The man who adopted me was not good to me, so now I am afraid of men. I really need to be in a home with women only and no young children. I am loving and sweet, and I hope you'll fall in love with me. If you would like to meet this beautiful girl, contact Deanna at nokill8@hotmail.com *** www.nokill1.org and please share her pictures and story with others!
Cypress, TX - Beautiful declawed Siamese cats need a home.

Janet Roszelle writes: I have two Siamese male neutered and front declawed cats and I recently got married and as hard as my husband has tried to cohabitate with the cats, his allergies and asthma just won’t allow it. I do not have the heart to take the cats to a shelter as I am in fear that they would not go to the right person of be euthanized.
The boys are relatively young, 2-3 years old and one is VERY loveable and the other is loveable to me, but is freaky around other people…they really need to be together as the freakish cat would be very upset without his big brother. I’ve been avoiding this for months, but I am getting ready to leave in June and will have nobody to care for them.
