HPR - URGENT PLEAS/NEEDS

On this page Hurricane Pets Rescue posts urgent
needs, and immediate concerns shared/crossposted by rescue
groups and individuals needing immediate help. Feel free to email us if you have
an animal needing immediate assistance. You will note that some animals have
been here a long time - they still need your help - they deserve more than
living in a kennel.
Below are some individual pleas for orphaned pets from around the country. Most recent are posted first...but please read on down the page! These animals all need immediate assistance/fostering/adoption! Some are still in shelters, others are fortunate to have a foster home, but every pet deserves a loving home of their own. If you know any of these animals have been placed or their circumstances have changed, please email baridubois@comcast.net ASAP . Thank you.
Saving one
animal won't change the world,
but it sure does change the world for that one animal - and for you.

Update - 12/21 - Sheri advised us that Gus was adopted just last week and has a sister schnauzer named Darla. Check out the picture below!!!

Niles, Illinois - Handsome Gus is hoping for a loving home!

Gus
is a gorgeous, majestic, friendly, playful and fun, three-year-old, male,
golden-eyed, black and white tuxedo Maine Coon looking for a loving home.
Gus loves people, greets you at the door, has a huge rumbly purr, and enjoys
playing with his toys … and thoroughly enjoys eating. After being on the street
and getting abused by other cats, he is happiest as the one and only feline in
the home. This poor fellow was found on the street emaciated and beat up
by other cats. He only weighed five pounds. A cat-lover brought him to a
veterinarian who recommended euthanizing him because of his poor condition … but
she disagreed. She brought him home, cleaned his wounds, fattened him up, and
eventually brought him to another doctor to complete his vetting. He is now an
incredibly healthy and happy 15-pound cat!
He has excellent litter box habits, lets you clip his nails, and is very
well-behaved in the home. Gus is extremely healthy, neutered, vaccinated for
rabies and distemper, de-wormed, and virus-tested. Gus needs at least a week to
settle into a new home, so he needs someone who will be patient with him. He is
extremely sweet, but he’s incredibly talkative when he first arrives!
To meet and
possibly adopt Gus, please contact Sheri at
sheri@petraits.com
or
773-777-2891. His adoption fee of $50 benefits rescued pets. He is currently
living in Niles, Illinois.

Adoption Help - Two Sweet Girls Need a Home
We have two sweet cats, Charlie and Dora, who need a loving home. My husband is being transferred overseas and, after a lot of soul searching, I don't feel that putting our cats through a flight halfway around the world and then 6 months of quarantine is humane. We'd much rather they stay with a loving family in the US. I've attached recent photos of each of the girls.
If you would be willing to put their pictures and story on your website, we will foster them and provide all expenses as for long as we are in the US. Whoever adopts them can have any or all of my kitty supplies. We will take them to the vet and get a complete workup to ensure they are healthy and up-to-date with all vaccinations. My husband and I would also like to make a donation of $100 for each cat to your group. Only one is a Maine Coon but I hope you would consider both as they are so attached to each other.
Both are female and spayed. They have been together for 8 years and are very attached to each other. They would do best in a calm home with no other pets and no small children. Older children would be fine. They are 100% indoor cats.
Charlie - She's a chubby Maine Coon about 10-12 years old. I found her, declawed, wandering stray in college. She's been a loyal, lovable girl ever since. She is a bit high strung and would do best in a calm home with lots of love. She loves to sit in your lap while you watch TV and absolutely loves to be groomed and pet and played with. She prefers a very clean, uncovered litter box all to herself and should have a large, round type clumping litter (Tidy Cat is great) since she's declawed. Small, sharp, or clay litters can hurt her paws and, consequently, she won't use the box. She has a bit of a rough time getting to the vet but does great once she gets there.
Dora - She's an American shorthair tabby about 8 years old. I got her as a kitten from the Denton Humane Society as a companion for Charlie. She's an independent, inquisitive cat. She rarely sits on your lap - though she might make an exception if you're curled up with a blanket. She's not picky about her litter box. She loves to play and find out what you're up to. She is not declawed, but I have never had a problem with her scratching anything. Just make sure to have a scratching post or two around the house.
We really do love our cats. I'm heartbroken to be leaving them but I can't put them through a 20 hour plane ride and up to six months in a quarantine shelter. Charlie is older and it would be extremely hard for her. I'm desperate to find a home for them before we leave. Any assistance you can offer is greatly appreciated. Thank you so, so much! ~Amanda Conner, Pflugerville, TX,281-883-9014 12/21

Update 12/21/11 - these sweethearts found new homes!
Long Beach, California - Four cats seeking a new family after their owner passed away.
Mark Romans writes:
My Sister lost
her year-long battle with breast cancer
on August 10th, 2011. Fortunately for me, I can turn to my friends
and family to help me cope with the loss of my sibling. But she is survived by
four beautiful cats who are not so fortunate as to be able to understand why
their “mommy” has gone. For their entire lives, these kitties have been bathed
in love and attention, as they quite literally were her only children. As such,
my Sis’s foremost and last wish was for me to oversee the placement of her
“kids” in real homes with conscientious, cat loving owners….people who would
continue to care for them in the way they’ve been accustomed. A daunting task
to say the least, as most of them are advanced in age. Nevertheless, I am
looking for the needle in the haystack, someone willing to adopt a great pet not
only for themselves, but for the benefit of the animal as well. All four are
indoor only and declawed.

Update - 12/21 - Lily has a new home!
Highland Park, Illinois - lovely Lily needs a loving home - please share her plea.

Lily is a
magnificent, shy, sensitive, super sweet, and extremely snugly, four-year-old,
female, three-legged, front-declawed, blue-eyed Ragdoll looking for a loving
guardian. Lily was rescued by a veterinary surgeon when she was found hit
by a car. One of her rear legs was destroyed, so the kind vet removed it so that
she can live the rest of her life pain-free. She gets around the home just fine
with what he calls the ferret scuffle. She can maneuver herself onto the couch,
but can’t reach the kitchen counter or the bed without assistance. The vet
tried to integrate this lovely cat into their family, but realized she really
needs a home without other cats, dogs or children. She will thrive in a quiet,
loving home as the one and only pet. She is very healthy, front-declawed,
de-wormed, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped and virus-tested. Her
adoption fee of $50 will benefit rescued pets. To meet and possibly adopt Lily,
please contact Tmima at
tmima@aol.com or phone 847-363-6951.

Lancaster, California - Handsome Salvatore needs a new home - please help!

Please contact Adria’s Personal email: rosier666@yahoo.com with any questions about this beautiful boy!
Hi everybody – I have a cat that I need to find a good home for (picture above). Can you keep your ears open for anyone that may be looking for a wonderful kitty? He’s about 4 years old (vet thinks), he’s neutered, litter box trained, gets along well with dogs and other cats, is a big ole lap kitty – very affectionate, in perfect health, and very very sweet.
I feed the outside stray cats on my porch and he just showed up one day. I think someone must have just dumped him. No collar, no tags, not chipped. Nothing. And when I opened the door he ran right in – and has no intention on running out again! LoL Problem is I already have 3 cats and 3 dogs. I really can’t financially handle another one. But he’s too tame to keep outdoors (and I’m terrified he’ll get hit by a car – he’s not as savvy as the feral cats L )
I’m going to network him around, and if anyone hears of someone who could find room for this fantastic little guy that would be awesome. Transportation to a new home can be arranged. Thanks!! Adria 12/21

Douglasville, Georgia - Annie abandoned at kill shelter by owner - please save her life!

ANNIE (ID #3799) was carried to animal control in some of the worst heat this country has seen in the trunk of her owner's car! The reason for turning her in the owner said, was because she has become afraid to go downstairs where her litter box is, and has been urinating on the floor.
The owner said she would not put a litter box upstairs for ANNIE, or try to find the reason for her fear. She also refused to take her to the vet. The shelter employees saw how incredibly sweet this cat was, purring and purring, and tried to reason with the owner. The lady copped a real attitude and all but spit in their faces. And then she left poor ANNIE there to die. That is what is going to happen to her, too. We know everyone is full right now, but PLEASE, try to make room for this lovely girl. Things like this should not happen, and this is ANNIE's last and only chance.

Bloomfield, New York - A special girl with special needs NEEDS YOU!

Above is Valentina.
She is 2 years old, was saved from NY shelter with her sister. Their owner
died and they were facing euthanasia. Her sister got adopted last month,
but Valentina is still with us. She has been in foster care for
approximately 4 months now. Valentina is a very nice cat that gets along
with everyone. Just recently she was diagnosed with renal failure and
needs fluids daily. The foster Mom cannot provide Valentina with the daily
care that she needs as she works very long hours. Valentina desperately
needs an experienced foster Mom or Dad that can administer fluids daily.
Or if you do not have experience we can always coach you if you have the time to
care for this girl or have one of our vets show you how, it is very easy.
All medical for Valentina will be covered by Hurricane Pets Rescue. Please
help this girl. She is a doll really and if you cannot help please
crosspost. Thank you, she is located in Bloomfield, NY but transport can be
arranged for the right foster home. Valentina is declawed but she is
living presently with cats that have their claws, so it is not a problem.
If you are interested in adopting
Valentina, please email Celene at
